Smooth, single-pour, and high fragrance load | AFI® Premium Para/Soy Container Wax 6600
If you’re a fan of para/soy wax blends, our AFI® Premium Para/Soy Container Wax 6600 will come in handy for all your candle and wax melt projects. With a 60% paraffin and 40% soy composition, you can expect superior adhesion, strong throw, and beautiful color payoff. It’s blended specifically for container candles, but we encourage you to experiment with it! Because it has a higher paraffin content than our other in house waxes, it’s a good choice for making candle embeds – The AFI® Premium Para/Soy Container Wax 6600 has a melting point of 136˚ F, meaning it’s easy to pop out of silicone embed molds. You’ll love how simple it is to make clean, professional candles that turn our perfect every time!
Step 1. Gather your supplies
The AFI® Premium Para/Soy Container Wax 6600 comes in 15 lb slabs, so cut it into cubes to easily measure it out. We’ve selected a 7.5 oz. container and an HTP-73 wick.
Step 2. Melt the Wax
Melt the wax using your preferred method of heating. A metal pouring pitcher or wax melting pot is ideal for quickly and evenly melting your wax, especially when higher melt temperatures are required.
Step 3. Check the Temp
Closely monitor the raising temperature while the wax melts. Allow it to reach 185˚ F before removing it from the heat and allowing it to cool slightly before adding fragrance; 175˚ is our preferred temperature because it allows the delicate top notes to stay intact without evaporating off, but also gives the fragrance plenty of space to blend into the wax molecules.
Step 4. Stir in fragrance & dye
Stir the fragrance in thoroughly. Doing so for at least a minute allows it to fully blend with the wax, ensuring you candles have a strong, consistent hot throw while reducing the risk of leaching and/or wick clogging. Our AFI® Premium Para/Soy Container Wax 6600 has a maximum fragrance load 10%, but this isn’t always necessary to achieve the best throw. Sometimes less it more! Typically, our fragrances perform best at 6% to 8% in most wax types, but there are exceptions, so testing is always recommended. We’re using our Summer Nights by AFI® fragrance oil at a 7% usage rate. Formulated for candles and soap, it’s a warm and sultry blend that transports you to late night parties on the beach!

One of the reasons we love our AFI® Premium Para/Soy Container Wax 6600 is its colorfastness. Candle dyes of all hues come through vibrantly in finished candles, giving you the rich color payoff needed to make decorative embeds and layered designs. We selected a pink colored dye to pair with the fun, flirty notes of our Summer Nights by AFI® fragrance oil.
Step 5. Pour the candle
While the wax reaches pouring temperature of 170˚ F, adhere the wick to the container with a wick sticker tab and pour the wax. For the best adhesion to the walls of the container, keep your workspace warm and, optionally, fan the container with a heat gun before pouring. Slowing the speed at which the wax cools reduces the likelihood of sinkholes and wet spots.
Step 6. finishing up
Center the wick with a popsicle stick or bowtie holder. Keep the candle away from drafts as it cools for the best results.
Step 7. cure time and burn tests
Trim the wick to 1/4″ when the candle has fully cooled to room temp after 24 hours. We recommend a minimum cure time of 3-4 days with our para/soy 6600 blend, but your results may vary. Allowing the candle to cure will result in the best possible hot and cold throw!
If this is your first time using our AFI® Premium Para/Soy Container Wax 6600, conduct a burn test to assess the performance of the wax, wick, and fragrance.
